It is estimated that the Taj Mahal is visited every year by 3 million people and is now also accessible to "virtual tourists". Built between 1631 and 1652 by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his second wife Mumtaz, in 2007 he was placed among the seven wonders of the modern world, along with the Great Wall of China, Petra (Jordan), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil) , Machu Picchu (Peru), Chichen Itzá (Mexico) and our Coliseum, as well as being one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites since December 1983.
